history

In 1296, the Dominican monastery in Löwental sold a property in Oberteuringen, which, according to the property register of 1300, included a mill, to the canons of St. Johann in Constance . In 1432 the mill was mentioned again.

In 1502 Hermann Ziegelmüller, innkeeper at Neuhaus , bought the mill. Of his four sons, Eitelhans was his successor. Eitelhans Ziegelmüller ran the mill just as successfully as his father. During the peasant war , Eitelhans, as captain of the Bermatinger Haufen , was able to peacefully end the peasant uprising. He negotiated the Weingarten contract , in which the farmers were guaranteed impunity . After that, Eitelhans made a remarkable career in administration and died in 1545.

In 1836 Johann Baptist Roth bought the property. He expanded the mill building in 1846 and gave it its current appearance. The family managed the property until 1957. Then the mill stopped operating and the mill channel was filled in. The last owner, Franz Roth, bequeathed the building to the municipality in 1976, represented by Mayor Franz Xaver Kreuzer. After Oberteuringen was included in the state renovation program in 1991, the cultural monument was renovated. The renovation was completed in 2002. As part of the 1250th anniversary of Oberteuringen, the building was given its new purpose as a cultural center.
