history
The cinema celebrated its opening on September 16, 1977 with the films Stroszek by Werner Herzog , Alice no longer lives here by Martin Scorsese and the two-part 1900 by Bernardo Bertolucci . Hans-Joachim Flebbe , who had already saved the Apollo cinema from collapse a few years earlier , was also responsible for creating the program in the cinema on Raschplatz , which quickly gained a good reputation.
Originally the cinema had three halls. Hollywood and Fairbanks were used by the art house cinema, the later Colosseum hall was initially used by the municipal cinema of the city of Hanover . Due to the positive response, the cinema at Raschplatz was expanded to include this hall on November 2, 1979. It was inaugurated with the film Messidor by Alain Tanner . In the summer of 1982, the Raschplatz cinema team took over the HOCHHAUS studio for film art from the Billerbeck companies. The associated high-rise light shows in the Anzeiger high-rise were renovated and opened in September 1982.
Due to renovation and conversion work, the cinema on Raschplatz had to temporarily close on July 18, 2007. The reopening took place on February 18, 2010. The foyer with lounge area has also been generously expanded and modernized. Since then there have been four halls with a total of 440 seats. These are named Graffiti (160 seats), Hollywood (130 seats), Fairbanks (96 seats) and Colosseum (54 seats).
The cinema was awarded the nationwide cinema program prize by the Minister of State for Culture in 2012, 2013 and 2014 ; also in 2013 and 2014 for the documentary film series and in 2014 for the children's film program of the previous year. Since 2011, the cinema has been awarded the annual film program prize of the State of Lower Saxony every year.
The UND BITTE ... film award has been presented in the cinema on Raschplatz since 2012 .
Over time, numerous internationally successful actors and directors have visited the cinema for premieres and other events, including Peter Fonda , Bernhard Wicki , Doris Dörrie , Franka Potente , Dani Levy , Lars Eidinger , Jürgen Vogel , Tom Schilling , Katja Riemann and many others .
