Hans-Joachim Flebbe (born August 22, 1951 in Hanover ) is a German entrepreneur and founder and former director of CinemaxX AG .

Life

Flebbe began his cinema career in 1973 as a program designer for the Apollo cinema in the Linden-Nord district of Hanover . In 1977 he opened the cinema on Raschplatz on the square of the same name north of the main train station . Together with Rolf Deyhle and Bodo Scriba , Flebbe founded the Cinemaxx company in 1989 , and the first Cinemaxx opened in Hanover on March 8, 1991 . In the following year it was the economically most successful cinema in Germany. Hans-Joachim Flebbe was named “Pioneer of the Year 1992” at the Brussels Cinema EXPO. Numerous other large cinemas were opened in German cities by 2002.

After differences about the direction and structure of the company, Flebbe resigned as CEO on September 30, 2008 and switched to the supervisory board, of which he was only a brief member until January 21, 2009. At the same time, Flebbe founded a new company to operate art cinemas. He took over the Filmpalast Berlin on Kurfürstendamm from Cinemaxx and converted it into a film lounge . He also acquired the high-rise light games in the Anzeiger high-rise building in Hanover and the cinema on Raschplatz in March 2009. On July 1, 2010, Flebbe also took over the Cinemaxx Braunschweig from the cinema chain; the multiplex cinema was later renamed C1 Cinema and was supposed to show more unknown films in addition to the big blockbusters.

In 2011, Flebbe in Cologne lavishly converted the Residenz cinema, which opened in 1950, into a luxury cinema. The cinema opens on March 19, 2012 with a porter, club chairs and service in the style of the Berlin Astor Film Lounge . Flebbe is pursuing a similar concept of a premium cinema in Hamburg with another ASTOR Film Lounge HafenCity and the Savoy Film Theater, which reopened in 2013 .

The traditional Berlin Zoo Palast cinema has also been operated by Hans Joachim Flebbe since it reopened on November 27, 2013.

The Braunschweig C1 Cinema was rebuilt between September and mid-October 2019 and reopened under the name Astor Filmtheater .

Hans-Joachim Flebbe is a co-founder and partner of the Neue Impuls Film company . He was co-producer of the films Nordkurve (1992) and Adrian und die Römer (1987/1988).
