Detlef Opitz (born November 8, 1956 in Steinheidel-Erlabrunn ) is a German writer.

Live and act

Trained as a rail vehicle fitter in Dresden, Opitz lived in Halle from 1975 to 1982 and worked there as a library technician, head waiter, puppeteer, salesman and postman. At the instigation of the security authorities, he was not allowed to study literature in Leipzig, despite his prior approval in 1980. At the same time, he was stripped of his tax number as a writer without giving any reason, and regular publications by him in the GDR were permanently prevented. After the fall of the Wall, the author was granted legal and administrative rehabilitation for the 10-year professional ban.

Opitz has lived in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg since 1982 and was part of the alternative GDR literature and art scene there. Since he was denied regular publications, with the exception of one in the magazine Sinn und Form , Opitz published instead in underground magazines such as Ariadnefabrik , Entwerter Oder , Damage and Usage until the turning point of 1989 . Because of his involvement in the opposition and the non-state literary scene, Opitz was arrested several times and sentenced in 1985 to four years' banishment from Berlin for "social misconduct". His lawyers in the various disputes were Gregor Gysi and Lothar de Maizière .

The novels about Martin Luther ( Klio, ein Wirbel um L. , 1996) and especially about Johann Georg Tinius ( Der Büchermörder , 2005), published by Opitz in the following period, received some critical acclaim. While Alban Nikolai Herbst to Clio, a vortex around L. has a rather ambivalent attitude, it "but the opitzsche history dime on the least Pope Joan with the poetic" one that he has long been read, Michael Opitz certifies the "manic literature collectors" on Deutschlandradio Kultur , Der Büchermörder is "a very idiosyncratic and highly advanced work of art in language, because the author easily changes with the time and language levels".

Also on the books killer says Hanne Kulessa under hr-online.de : "For those who only are on the way to which is read into the world of the book with her but sometimes obscure passions will - enjoyable - abysses open up." In addition, according to pearl diver Alexander Košenina in the FAZ awards it the predicates "original and experimental, bold and bulky", and Dorothea Dieckmann is "absolutely enthusiastic" in the NZZ , because Opitz's "limitless love of language" gives her a very special pleasure and she sees the report on the murderer who has fallen into literature as an “original work of language art”.
