Sander Germanus
Sander Germanus (born March 16, 1972 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch saxophonist and composer.
Germanus studied classical saxophone with Ed Bogaard at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam from 1988 to 1995 . From 1992 he took part in saxophone masterclasses from Jean-Marie Londeix and Claude Delangle (France), Ryō Noda (Japan) and Krzysztof Herder (Poland). At the Rotterdam Conservatory he also studied composition with Peter-Jan Wagemans and instrumentation with Klaas de Vries . He also took lessons from Luc Van Hove at the Antwerp Conservatory from 1994–95 and attended a master class with Pierre Boulez in 1995 . At the Orpheus Institute in Ghent he took part in seminars by Helmut Lachenmann and Jonathan Harvey , among others , and in 2005 he presented his diploma thesis on microtonal music .
2001–02 he worked as a scholarship holder at the international artist house Villa Concordia in Bamberg. Since 2007 he has been the artistic director of the Stichting Huygens-Fokker , a center for microtonal music in Amsterdam, which houses Adriaan Fokker's 31-tone organ . Since 2010 he has been giving lectures on contemporary music. As a saxophonist he has been a member of the World Saxophone Orchestra (soprano and sopranino saxophone) since 1991 and has performed as a soloist since 1998.
