NGC 564 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E2? in the constellation whale in the southern sky . It is around 263 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 110,000 light years .
It was discovered on October 1, 1785 by the German-British astronomer Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel .
