NGC 582 is a 13 mag. bright bar spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Triangle in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 201 million light years from the Milky Way and about 130,000 light years in diameter . Together with five other galaxies, it forms the NGC 499 group ( LGG 24 ).
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 579 and NGC 608 .

The Type IIP supernova PNV J01315945 + 3328458 was observed here.

The object was discovered on August 9, 1863 by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest .
