NGC 602 is the name of an emission nebula with an embedded open star cluster in the Small Magellanic Cloud , which is about 196,000 light-years from Earth . The diameter of NGC 602 is about 90 light years.
The open star cluster NGC 602 was discovered on August 1, 1826 by the Scottish astronomer James Dunlop .
The way in which the open star cluster is embedded in the emission nebula is similar and similar. a. to the cocoon and rosette nebula of our Milky Way.
