NGC 613 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active galaxy core of the Hubble type SB (rs) bc in the constellation Sculptor in the southern sky . The galaxy is around 65 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 100,000 light years .

Their spiral arms are characterized by numerous star formation areas (blue & purple regions in the picture).
The object was discovered on December 9, 1798 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel . On September 26, 2016, an Argentinian amateur astronomer photographed the explosion of a star as a supernova in a spiral arm of the galaxy ; This was cataloged under the name SN 2016gkg .
