NGC 638 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 145 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years across. Together with four other galaxies, it forms the NGC 645 group ( LGG 28 )

In the same area of ​​the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 652 .

The object was discovered on October 22, 1886 by the American astronomer Lewis A. Swift .
