NGC 644 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Phoenix in the southern sky . It is an estimated 275 million light years away from the Milky Way and is about 105,000 light years in diameter. Presumably it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair together with NGC 641 .

The Type Ia supernova SN 2011gm was observed here.

The object was discovered by John Herschel on September 5, 1834 .
