NGC 626 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Sculptor in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 251 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 165,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 630 .
The object was discovered on September 4, 1834 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
