NGC 134 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the southern constellation Sculptors in the southern sky . It is an estimated 70 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 175,000 ly. The galaxy has a magnitude of 10.4 mag and an angular extent of 8.4 '× 1.8'.
In the photo on the right, numerous reddish spots can be seen in the spiral arms . These are HII regions , large clouds of ionized hydrogen that are stimulated to glow by the high- energy radiation from massive young stars.
The type IIb supernova SN 2009gj was observed here.
The object was discovered on July 7, 1826 by the Scottish astronomer James Dunlop .
