NGC 117 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 244 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years across.
The object was discovered on September 13, 1863 by the German astronomer Albert Marth .
