NGC 131 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type in the SBb constellation Sculptors in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 62 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter.

Together with NGC 115 , NGC 134 , NGC 148 , IC 1554 , IC 1555 and PGC 2044 , it forms the NGC 134 group .

The object was discovered on September 25, 1834 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
