NGC 124 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 185 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 113 , NGC 114 , NGC 118 , NGC 120 .
The type IIP supernova SN 2004dd was observed here.
The object was discovered on September 23, 1867 by the American astronomer Truman Henry Safford .
