NGC 128 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 194 million light years from the Milky Way and about 140,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy has an unusual peanut-shaped halo , probably caused by the gravitational effects of its companions.

It is the largest member and namesake of the NGC-128 group , which also includes the galaxies NGC 126 , NGC 127 , NGC 130 , PGC 1723 , PGC 1737 , PGC 1741 , PGC 1746 , PGC 1748 , PGC 1760 and PGC 1770 .

The Type Ia / P supernova SN 2014da was observed here.

The object was discovered on December 25, 1790 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
