Adrian Le Roy , also Adrien Le Roy (* around 1520 in Montreuil , † 1598 in Paris ), was a French lutenist , music publisher and composer .

Life

He came from a merchant family and founded a music publisher in Paris with his cousin Robert Ballard in 1551, and acted as its musical director. In a short time he came to the top of Parisian society and met many other artists of his time in the Paris salons. He frequented the court of King Charles IX. and was there an influential advisor on musical matters. In this way he had a significant influence on musical tastes in France.

He was friends with Orlando di Lasso and suggested that he come to Paris.

In the 1540s he married the daughter of the Parisian publisher Jean de Brouilly , Denise, but his wife died in the 1560s.
