NGC 140 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Scd in the constellation Andromeda in the northern sky . It is an estimated 295 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 130,000 light years in diameter . 
The galaxy NGC 149 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on October 8, 1866 by the American astronomer Truman Henry Safford .
