NGC 165 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble-type SBbc in the constellation Whale south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 265 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 151 , NGC 153 , NGC 155 , NGC 163 .
The object was discovered on December 10, 1798 by the German astronomer William Herschel .
