NGC 189 is an open star cluster in the constellation Cassiopeia , which is about 3500 light years from Earth .
discovery
NGC 189 was originally discovered by Caroline Herschel on September 27, 1783 . However, the discovery was not noted and was forgotten. On October 27, 1829 , NGC 189 was rediscovered by the British astronomer John Frederick William Herschel .
