NGC 212 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Phoenix on southern sky . It is estimated to be 365 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 110,000 light-years across. It is the brightest galaxy in the Abell 2806 cluster .
The galaxy NGC 215 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on October 28, 1834 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
