NGC 216 is a lenticular galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Cetus south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 70 million light years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on December 9, 1784 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
