NGC 181 is a galaxy of Hubble type S? in the constellation Andromeda in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 254 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 183 and NGC 184 lie in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on October 6, 1883 by the French astronomer Édouard Stephan .
