NGC 163 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E3 in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 270 million light years from the Milky Way and about 125,000 light years across .
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 151 , NGC 155 , NGC 165 .
The object was discovered on December 10, 1798 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
