NGC 187 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic It is estimated that 178 million light-years from the Milky Way away and has a diameter of about 65,000 light years. 
In the same area of the sky are among others the galaxies NGC 178 , NGC 207 , IC 39 , IC 41 .
The object was discovered on November 3, 1885 by the American astronomer Ormond Stone .
