IC 41 is an irregular dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type S / Irr in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 179 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 20,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 178 , NGC 187 , NGC 207 , NGC 210 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on August 26, 1892 .
