IC 34 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 244 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 170,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 180 .
The object was discovered by Truman Henry Safford on October 22, 1867 .
