IC 16 is a galaxy in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 219 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 30,000 ly.   
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 135 , IC 20 , IC 23 , among others .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on November 3, 1891 .
