IC 30 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type S in the constellation Whale in the southern sky . It is around 1.1 billion light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 130,000 light years .
The object was discovered on November 6, 1891 by Stéphane Javelle .
