NGC 135 = IC 26 is an elliptical galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type E / S0? in the constellation whale south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 324 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 20 , IC 23 , IC 27 , IC 28 .
The object was discovered on October 2, 1886 by the American astronomer Francis Preserved Leavenworth (listed as NGC ). Rediscovered on November 4th, 1891 by Stéphane Javelle ( listed as IC ).
