IC 37 is a spiral galaxy from the Hubble type Sc in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 724 million light years from the Milky Way and about 170,000 ly in diameter. Since IC 37 is in almost the same direction and distance as IC 38 , they can be a gravitationally bound pair .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 187 , IC 36 , IC 42 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on August 25, 1892 .
