IC 19 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E3? in the constellation whale south of the ecliptic . It is around 280 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 45,000 light years .
The galaxy forms an interactive pair with its spiral companion IC 18 , which is registered as Arp 100 in the Arp catalog . Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class spiral galaxies with an elliptical companion on one arm (Arp catalog) .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on August 31, 1892 .
