NGC 2300 is a lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble-type S0 in the constellation Cepheus in the northern sky . It is around 92 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 75,000 light years . Together with NGC 2276 , it forms the probably gravitationally bound galaxy pair Arp 114 (also KPG 127 ).

Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class of elliptical galaxies close to spiral galaxies and disturbing them (Arp catalog) . Together with NGC 2268 , IC 455 , IC 469 , IC 499 and IC 512 u. a. they form the NGC 2276 group .

The object was discovered in 1871 by the astronomer Alphonse Borrelly with an 18 cm telescope .
