IC 22 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 274 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on September 14, 1892 .
