IC 23 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 277 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 135 , IC 16 , IC 20 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on November 2, 1891 .
