IC 2 is a galaxy of Hubble type S? in the constellation whale south of the celestial equator. It is estimated to be 306 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light-years across .
The galaxies NGC 17 and NGC 35 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on March 3, 1891 by the French astronomer Stéphane Javelle .
