NGC 155 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble-type S0 in the constellation Whale south of the celestial equator . It is an estimated 280 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 140,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies NGC 163 and NGC 165 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on September 1, 1886 by the American astronomer Lewis A. Swift .
