NGC 132 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Whale south of the celestial equator . It is an estimated 244 million light years away from the Milky Way and is approximately 135,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 126 , NGC 128 , NGC 130 , IC 17 .
The Type Ic supernova SN 2004fe was observed here.
The object was discovered on December 25, 1790 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
