IC 58 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E5 in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is about 283 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter . 
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 284 , NGC 285 , NGC 286 , IC 60 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on August 23, 1892 .
