IC 77 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 783 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 115,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies IC 78 , IC 79 , IC 80 , IC 82 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on August 31, 1892 .
