IC 74 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E3 in the constellation fish on the ecliptic . It is about 228 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 25,000 light years in diameter .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 396 and IC 73 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on August 19, 1892 .
