IC 80 is a pair of galaxies in the constellation Whale in the southern sky . The galaxy pair, with the two elliptical galaxies also classified as IC 80A and IC 80B, is an estimated 709 million light years away from the Milky Way . In many catalogs, the categorizations of the objects in the sky area are not uniform, as there are a large number of galaxies at this position.
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on August 31, 1892 .
