IC 88 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S in the constellation Whale in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 878 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 100,000 ly.
In the same area of ​​the sky are the galaxies NGC 428 and IC 87 , among others .

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on December 12, 1893 .
