IC 78 is a spiral galaxy with an active galactic nucleus from Hubble type Sa in the constellation Cetus the south celestial equator , an estimated 527 million light-years from the Milky Way 's center.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 77 , IC 79 , IC 82 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on August 30, 1892 .
