IC 82 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Whale in the southern sky . It is an estimated 535 million light years from the Milky Way and about 125,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 77 , IC 78 , IC 79 , IC 80 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on August 30, 1892 .
