IC 83 is a spiral galaxy from the Hubble type S in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 600 million light years away from the Milky Way and is about 120,000 light years in diameter .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 428 , NGC 435 , IC 84 , IC 1629 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on November 5, 1891 .
