IC 103 is an elliptical galaxy with the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 432 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 115,000 ly. It is the namesake of the NGC 533 group .
The galaxies NGC 521 , NGC 533 , IC 105 and IC 109 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on November 5, 1891 .
