IC 109 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 439 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 140,000 ly. 
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 521 , NGC 533 , IC 103 , IC 105 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on November 5, 1891 .
