IC 123 is a galaxy in the constellation Whale in the southern sky . It is around 413 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 45,000 light years . It is classified as a Seyfert galaxy , a special type of very bright galaxies that belong to the group of active galactic nuclei ( AGN ). The galaxy PGC 1228811 is in their optical proximity, but nothing else connects them with it.
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on January 6, 1894 .
